Karel is a Finger of the Reach. "Karel" stands for the name and for the status in the Reach.
Karel is a lanky, thin, middle sized humanoid creature with a grey skin that turns to anthrazit and black towards the extremities and the top of the head. The legs are mutated to the extent that the feet are hoofed toes that have a leather-like coating, similar to ibexes. The head is rather round and the expression on the face is neutral to gentle. A wide mouth and very big, dark eyes with black pupils.
Instead of regular, human hands, Karel has 2 very long fingers adjacent to 3 rather small ones and a strong thumb.
Under the helmet, invisibly, the top of the head has hardened and grown a notable protrusion where the stones kept hitting th eheads for generations. This protrusion is hidden by a helmet.
Karel is of the old family called Fingers of the reach. A plutocratic family ruling the Reach for generations, until forgotten why so.
Karel is the last born Finger of the generation. Karel grew up with 3 siblings.
Do to circumstances described below Karel has an establlished connection to an entity in and of the shadow. There is a linked conection through Karels Ikonis that lets them communicate. This entity grants Karel the capability to understand the rythm of time and reoccourrence and the interaction with the absence of light, of entropy.
On day on the way to service the reach Karel is met by a strange "remnant" that seemingly either emerged from the inside of the reach or just "walked through" the Reach. It can't have come from the back as it would have needed to be completely invisible and as there was a period of low density there where a lot of people on watch.
The strange "remnant" was made from a liquid crystal like material and did not show signs of recognition or interaction as Kared confronted it. Karel prepared to fight and as Karel had only the two big diamonds for the service Karel used them as punching stones. As soon as the stones hit the strange "remnant" though Karel was thrown to the ceiling of the reach and heavily crashed down to the ground again, falling unconscious. In this unconsciousness Karel subsequently rushed through nightmarish landscapes, alien expressions of reality, staggeringly fast heartbeat, racing against time itself, as if all life that was left to be living was lived in a blink of an eye and all hartbeats hat have to be beaten were trying to do so within just a tiny moment.
Emotionally crying for help in this torment a voice reached out to Karel, promising to be of aid. Promising to ask for something in return, though, too.
As Karel came back to the present Karel was standing in the same space where Karel hat seen the strange "remnant" for the first time - only this time in Karels hand a strange, black, glas shaped object. Not too dissimilar from the shape of the creature in the encoutner. Acknowleding the present responsibilities Karel went to service the reach and headed straight back to commune with the other Fingers. On the way back Karel became slowly and step by step aware of certain things that needed to be done. And will be done. By Karel.
The people of the Reach noticed the change as Karel was changing in personality and had irregular phases of sitting down for no reason, leaning forward with the head bent down to not have any light on the face. The Fingers specifically noticed Karels improved capabilities and powers and debated how to go about with this situation.
When the Transmission arrived at the Reach to come and support Argent the Fingers saw it as a good chance to solve this issue. Karel was sent away to show support to the city and to free the reach from this burdon.
Karel travelled for the first time out of the reach to the surface. Brightness, plant life and the occasional encounter with strangers were as much confusing for Karel as the endless expanse of air above, not limited by anything. Karel mostly travelled in small company and was mostly in hiding, under covers or within wagons whereever possible.
Guides and travel had to be afforded and sleeping spaces hat to be paid. Food is plenty and Karel needs little. After a few encounters with remnants on the way Karel gets better known an respected. A few travelling comrades band together as they figure they have the same goal - the calling in Argent.
After about 2 weeks of travel they arrive as a group of 5 at the plaza in Ardent where the speech is given. They are Karel, Sinere, Reff, Arb i sini felia (Arbi) and Keratono. Karel had been organizing the group already and looses no time, as used in the reach, when there is anything of urgence you better get to it urgently.
On the way down Sinere vanishes but the others continue. Heading fast and stealthy through the halls and hallways they encounter the foreman and the drones. Arbi knows a lot about remnants and assesses the situation clearly so they engage in the fight, overwhelmed by the surprising force of the drones chaos breaks loose and a big chrashing sound is the last Karel hears before waking up into the first played episode.
